This diagram shows a section through one bascule. Note the arcuate rack which is a part of the moving bascule and is driven by the small pinions shown at the left-hand side of the diagram. Note also the resting blocks, under the bascule and on top of a masonry and steel structure at the left centre of the diagram, about 8 feet to the right of the zero line through the pivot shaft.
